How do I fix performance issues in Jedi Knight Mysteries of the Sith?

Black screen lock-up with the 3DFX Banshee chipset
If you are encountering a black screen lock-up when attempting to play Jedi Knight or Mysteries of the Sith in 3-D accelerated mode, and you are using a card that utilizes the 3Dfx Banshee chipset, the problem is specifically related to the drivers you are using with your card. Recently, 3Dfx and individual video card manufacturers (such as Diamond) have released a new version of drivers for the Banshee chipset which, once installed, should correct the black screen lock-up. We recommend you contact the manufacturer of your video card or 3Dfx Interactive for information on the recently released drivers.

I cannot get the scroll wheel on my Logitech Mouseman+ to work in STAR WARS™ Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith.
The wheel on the Logitech Mouseman+ will not work in Mysteries of the Sith, but you can use it as Button 3 in the game. To do this, you need to set it up in the mouse control panel before running the game. To do this, double-click on the Mouse icon in the control panel, then click on the Buttons tab at the top of the screen. Under Button Assignments, click on the arrow next to 2: and select Middle Button from the pop-down list. We recommend using driver version 7.5. You can check their website at http://www.logitech.com for this driver.

Low-end Graphics Card Issues
When using a low-end graphics card, you may experience the following issues when playing the game:
  • Performance may be slow in some areas.
  • You may see flickering graphics.
  • Textures may be missing or they may display incorrectly.
  • You may experience poor performance or lock ups after selecting any Screen Resolution above 1024x768. If this occurs, we recommend that you select a lower resolution.

The System Analyzer fails to detect correct version of DirectX drivers.
The system analyzer may show that it failed to detect the correct version of DirectX drivers on your computer if you run the U.S. version of Mysteries of the Sith on a system with an International operating system and DirectX correctly installed. Even though you see this message, this does not effect the way the game will run on your computer.

Where is the Hi-res sound?
Unfortunately, there have been some changes to some of the original Jedi Knight features with the new Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith Companion Missions. Hi-Res sounds are only available in the original Jedi Knight game, so you will have to play with Lo-Res sounds in Mysteries of the Sith.

Why is there no sound in the game's launcher?
The game's Launcher may occasionally have no sound. When this happens, it usually affects the rest of the game. Windows may still be using your sound card from the last application you were running. Rebooting the computer should correct this. If rebooting does not correct this, your sound card may not be set up correctly in Windows. Please check the rest of this section to see how to check and see if your sound card is working correctly.
 
Note: If the Media Player is not installed, some of the following instructions will not work. If you want to add it, please consult Windows Help for assistance. Just type Media Player in the index section and follow the directions provided by Windows.

Performance is suffering in the Dantooine area in STAR WARS™ Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith.
To correct this, go into the game options and reduce all the settings to their lowest value.
